Adam Guest
Back in August 2012, I was given an assignment!
I had recently broken up with my girlfriend, had made a commitment to become a professional actor and having a generally difficult struggle when it came to ‘my next mission’. That was until a friend of mine, who supported my move to becoming an actor, came to my aid.
“Why don’t you do an evening, much like the old ‘An Audience With…’ famous celebrities and do it as a motivational springboard?” he said. “Don’t be ridiculous!” I replied. “I’m not famous yet. Who would want to come and see me?”
“Ask, and find out.” came his response. Well, after a brief status update on Facebook, it seemed that quite a few people were interested so the mission was on to put on ‘An Evening with Adam Guest’. A night of sketches, music and audience questions and participation.
However, I wanted something a bit special to show to people; to prove that not only could I put on this event, but also I could enjoy myself doing it as well. At the time, the hype was huge surrounding the release of Skyfall and so I thought to myself…’Why don’t I have my OWN Bond moment? If Daniel Craig can…so can I!’
From that moment, I set to creating a script, securing locations and finding friends to perform in a unique movie. One which would be shown on the ‘Evening’ as an introduction to my appearance.
By pure chance, I happened to do some voluntary film work for a charity in Nottingham. On the day of filming, I got talking to the cameraman and it transpired he had helped out with filming some of the shots for Skyfall. I instantly struck up a connection with the guy and told him about my plans, and he jumped at the chance to film it with me. He didn’t want any money; simply the chance of doing a fun project was good enough for him.
I asked around and managed to get to film with an Aston Martin DB9, the entire use of a local high class bar in Nottingham, and even got the actors to agree to work for free – and the result was a highly entertaining film which led to a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
To cap it all off, Josh Kemp, who was my support for the night agreed to play ‘You Know My Name’ so I could sing it as I came on stage.
That, my friends…was a TRUE James Bond Moment!
Here’s the video. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it.
Great. Well done, and funny too. Love the car driving out beside the Aston Martin, and the Mouse Trap game (I knew you had something waiting, I was guessing tiddly-winks).
